See & treat

Conditions commonly treated

See & treat clinics commonly manage: sebaceous cysts, skin tags, warts, suspicious skin lesions requiring biopsy, skin cancer, lipomas.

The approach allows the consultant to assess the lesion and, if appropriate, proceed with treatment immediately during the same appointment.

Benefits of a See & treat appointment

The main advantage of the See & treat model is convenience and speed. Rather than attending separate consultations and procedure appointments, many patients can have both assessment and treatment completed on the same day. Benefits may include: faster access to treatment, fewer hospital or clinic visits, reduced waiting times, less disruption to work and daily life, immediate reassurance and management.

This "one-stop" approach is designed to streamline care and improve the patient experience.

The procedure / process

Following examination of the skin concern, the clinician will discuss the most appropriate treatment option. Depending on the type of lesion, procedures may include: shave excision (commonly used for raised lesions such as benign intradermal moles, large seborrhoeic keratoses and large skin tags), small incision and removal (often used for small lipomas and sebaceous cysts), minor excision or cautery (suitable for smaller lesions, precancerous lesions), biopsy procedures (where further laboratory analysis is required).

All procedures are typically carried out under local anaesthetic to ensure patient comfort. Some tissue samples may be sent for laboratory testing if medically indicated.

Recovery and aftercare

Patients are provided with aftercare instructions following treatment. Typical advice includes: keeping the area clean and dry for the first 24-48 hours, using dressings where required, avoiding strenuous activity while healing, returning for stitch removal if necessary.

Minor scarring or an excision line may occur, though this generally fades over time. Clinicians may recommend massage or silicone scar creams to help soften the scar as healing progresses.

Important notes

While many minor skin lesions can be treated during a single visit, some more complex cases may require: additional investigations, histology results, follow-up appointments, referral for specialist treatment.

The suitability of same-day treatment depends on the lesion type, location, and clinical assessment.

Pricing

Your consultation (See)

€300

Your consultation with a consultant is charged on a self-pay basis. If you have health insurance, you may be able to reclaim some of this cost, depending on your level of cover. Check with your insurer about outpatient benefits.

Your procedure, if needed (Treat)

If your consultant recommends a procedure, our team will help you check your health insurance cover in advance. Excesses may apply, depending on your policy. Self-pay is also available, and we will explain the full cost before your procedure goes ahead, so there are no surprises.

Benefits

  • Faster access to treatment

Assessment and treatment can be completed on the same day, rather than waiting between separate appointments.

  • Fewer visits

Many patients avoid separate consultation and procedure appointments, meaning fewer hospital or clinic visits.

  • Less disruption to daily life

Reduced waiting times mean less time away from work and your daily routine.

  • Reassurance and fast results

Your lesion is assessed and, where appropriate, managed during the same appointment. Pathology results, if required, are normally available in under 3 weeks.
